A Liturgy Following a Hurricane

Leader: As we respond in prayer to this tragedy, let us acknowledge the truths of Scripture together.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling" (Psalm 46:1-3).

Corporate response: God, you are our strong help. In the midst of these difficult circumstances, may we rely on you.

Leader: As the body of Christ, "let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:23–25).

Corporate response: Jesus, you are our living hope. May we live like you as we await your second coming.

A Liturgy During a Pandemic

Leader: Brothers and sisters, let us not be anxious during this time of the unknown. Let us look to our creator for wisdom and to our Savior for hope.

"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! 'For who has known the mind of the Lord,

or who has been his counselor?' 'Or who has given a gift to him

that he might be repaid' (Romans 11:33-35)?

Corporate response: Our God, we trust in your judgements and sovereignty.

"For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen" (Romans 11:36).

Leader: The Lord says:

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Corporate response: Jesus, you are our place of rest amidst the unknown. We find rest in the salvation found in you, which provides lasting peace.

Leader: Lord, comfort us and enable us to worship you. Although we do not know what tomorrow may bring, we know that you hold tomorrow in your hands.

A Liturgy for Global Terrorism

Leader: Beloved, we are always in desperate need of God. Today, we look to him for relief from terrorism, but ultimately for the salvation of the souls who are leaving the earth. Take some time to acknowledge the goodness and mercy of God as we pray.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7).

Corporate response: God, we thank you for the salvation you provide to those who believe in you. Heal us from sin and the wickedness that surrounds us. Protect us from the ultimate evil one.

Leader:

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you" (Philippians 4:8-9).

Corporate response: Give us the strength to think on honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable thoughts. Give us endurance to practice things.

Leader:

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).

Corporate response: Thank you for calling your children for your good purpose. Unite our world to love you.
